The web did not get smaller. Our way into it did. Most days now run through five or six addresses, each one deciding what comes next.

oddsurf is one button that sends you somewhere else: a person's site about lichen, an archive somebody has kept for fourteen years, a thing one person made for no reason at all. Press it again and you are somewhere new.

How a site gets here

We read the directories the small web keeps about itself, follow what those sites link to, and search for the corners neither covers. Everything found is fetched, checked against Google Web Risk, and judged before anybody sees it — is this a place, or an article about places? Platforms everybody already knows are refused outright: nobody needs a surf button to find YouTube.

What survives gets a page here with a couple of sentences in our own words about why it is worth a look. Right now 14,367 sites have made it through.

What we do not do

We do not keep a record of where you go. There is no third-party analytics, advertising network, tracking pixel or third-party font on any page — the only thing your browser loads is this site. Surfing needs no account; signing in only saves the places you liked.

If something is wrong

A site can go bad after we look at it. If one is harmful, gone, or nothing like what we said, tell us — it takes a moment and no account. If a listed site is yours and you would rather not be here, say so and we will take it out without asking why.
